Just wondering if anyone can confirm what Lucas' plans are for 2012? With the Outlaws season quickly approaching, I thought it was odd that I hadn't seen anything confirming his plans for this year. Selfishly, I'd like to see him back in Pa.

I would much rather see him back in here in PA.. I like watching him race, he's exciting. To be frank, JMO, the amount of years now, that he has been with the outlaws, he's not setting the world on fire. Maybe he needs to run with the allstars for a while. It makes you think, do you really want to win or just be a field filler.

Like I said it was in AARN weeks ago and the latest press release from the WoO with quotes from drivers about the season opener at Volusia:

Fast Talkers: Drivers discuss Florida’s upcoming season opener

Expectations are high as the World of Outlaws competitors prepare for Volusia

CONCORD, N.C. — Feb. 3, 2012 — With the World of Outlaws Sprint Car Series closing in on its season-opening event, everyone is chomping at the bit.

That includes several full-time competitors, who are excited to start the season on Feb. 17-18-19 at the 41st annual UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit Racing Equipment at Volusia Speedway Park in Barberville, Fla. It’s an event that includes all three major World of Outlaws series competing Feb. 14-25.

Here’s what some of the World of Outlaw drivers are saying about the UNOH DIRTcar Nationals Presented by Summit:

Jason Meyers (Clovis, Calif.) – “The hard part about Volusia is that all of the best cars are there to start the season. It’s kind of like a Knoxville Nationals at the start of the season. Probably the key down there is to have your qualifying in order. If you qualify bad, you really struggle to come from the back all night long.”

Donny Schatz (Minot, N.D.) – “Volusia is a place you can go and be extremely good or extremely bad. It can set the tone for the whole year. It’s a big race track and the conditions can be so different from day to day. You just have to keep as much speed up as possible.”

Steve Kinser (Bloomington, Ind.) – “I like running Volusia. It’s a good, fast race track, even if it’s slick. It’s the kind of track we really like to run on.”

Craig Dollansky (Elk River, Minn.) – “It seems to pull teams from all over the country. You get some of the best teams. We’ve always enjoyed going to Volusia. It’s probably one of the fastest tracks we race on throughout the season. When they get that track prepared nice, it’s some great racing.”

Lucas Wolfe (Mechanicsburg, Penn.) – “Volusia is pretty tough, especially with the competition that is there. It’s always a bit of unknown because everybody is coming off the winter and having a fresh start. It’s something you look forward to.”

Kraig Kinser (Bloomington, Ind.) – “It’s definitely a track you want to go to and run pretty good at because it sets the tone for the start of the year. It’s a good gauge. You know who’s pretty strong and where you gauge against everybody. It’s definitely a big week for us.”

Chad Kemenah (Findlay, Ohio) – “Volusia is about just going fast. A lot of it is your starting spot. Some of it depends on how they prep the track. It can be a really neat race track if it slicks off and gets a cushion. It should be a pretty good show for the fans.”

Joey Saldana (Brownsburg, Ind.) – “Volusia is one of those tracks with hard competition and the track is hard. You just have to be consistent every night. It’s a fast track kind of like Eldora (Speedway in Rossburg, Ohio). It’s probably one of the fastest tracks we race on. I like fast tracks, so it kind of fits my style.”

Bill Rose (Plainfield, Ind.) – “I like going down there because the track is so fast. It’s one of the fastest tracks we go to. It’s a challenging track because it’s so fast. You’ve got to have all your stuff right.”

I understand that the Outlaws are the premier series, but for a guy like Lucas I would think the All Stars would be very tempting. 50k to win the overall championship, 20k to win the Eastern region. One would have to think that Lucas would be a serious contender to win both regions if possible. That, combined with the less travel and weaker competition, would be a very tempting thing for this team I'd think. I'm sure there are other circumstances that I know nothing about, but just thinking about it makes it seem like it would make sense.

Good luck to Lucas either way. He's a great asset to any series or area he's racing in.

It's not $50,000 to-win the overall All Star championship...that got split up in the regions. Less travel yes, but also racing for half the purse, probably 1/3rd of the point fund, and no where near the WoO travel prackage. It's not like all of those All Star races would be cakewalks either. Now with lesser teams on the road this year, it's probably an easy decision.

Lucas is doing the whole tour. They will start in Florida and skip the Allstar shows in Georgia this weekend. Look for more sponsors on the 5w this year.

That what Lance thought :whistle:33 races ran in 08 against the all-stars only two wins.

That's right aero. When you race against those all star guys out in ohio things get much tougher.

Competition now days is not easy anywhere, but extremely tough on the tour. It isn't like Lucas is some back marker you only need to be a tick off with those guys to be a 10th or less place car. A tick in the right direction on your program and your whole season can turn around quick. I think he is doing fine right where he is as long as financing supports your effort in the end. Talent is there, equipment is in place, more track variety experience gets better each year. It is intense competition with those guys, close only puts you mid pack.

You're exactly right goshow. And its not like Lucas hasn't been competitive. He's been so close to winning many times & it's only a matter of time until he finishes the deal. If they can afford to stay out there & they want to stay out there then that's what they need to do because it will only make them better.
