Is this the car that was redone and now(or was) at EMMR on display?

I remember that truck....

Memory check for me....Did Bobby drive one of Gohns sprinters (team car or back up car for Weaver...#20) in the 1976-77-78 time frame once or twice? I have it in my head he was at Port at a special race during that time and he actually flipped that night.

I do know his last race was in one of Jr. Eckerts cars whatever they were called at that time, Thundercar, Limited Late. #00...Don't know if Maddog is Goose, but these photo's look to be taken at his place close to Lincoln. 1080 Goose (Ronnie Ruth) has that truck along with many other restorables. Hope he gets them all done at some point. I am available for help... :laughing7: Opps I guess the Palmyra location of Maddog eliminates him from being Goose. Anyhow I love the stuff you post keep it coming. :thumbright:

this car was never at EMMR, it has a different axle in the front, other then that, the car is it the same condition,as when Abel last drove it! Goose also has Abel's cut down coupe, it is being restored, not sure at what point it is, I know he is working on a opp car also, it was a great day to see this BOBBY ABEL history. Abel did run a sprint car at one point, 1 or 2 times, what I remember he told me,I just want to thank GOOSE again for the chance to see the ABEL items he has.

What year did Booby race this car? Because I have a photo of Jack Deniston after wins at Hagerstown on 10-1-67 with an obvious Abel car, but a wing added. It does not look like the car pictured, but like the 1966 car plus wing. Same paint and number, but Gohn's is removed and the words "The Deuce" painted. Also Jack's name on the sides where Bobby's was. An article says the car is owned by Doc Wentz. They also won the Hub City 100 together in 1967.

I also saw Bobby race a sprint (one of the Gohn's cars) at one of the season ending Sprint and Modified doubleheaders at Reading I am thinking 76, 77 or 78.

GOSHOW your are correct Maddog is not Goose but the photos were taken at Goose's house. He told me to tell you he wants you to stop in sometime.

The Able car that Jack Deniston drove was sold and became Keith Kauffmans first race car. I don't know if Keith was the owner or not. I think someone near Mexico has the car as Keith drove it. I see it almost every year on the night of the Penn Central reunion.

i think the car ran in the early seventys, Goose would know. Don't think he won any features with this last bug. he did drive the Weaver 20 sprint later like 1080 said.

WOW! That's a fine photo of a great car and really fine driver . I hope whoever has it takes real fine care of it. Finnish off the truck yet, would be extra special. Didn't Bobby also drive Jim Fowlers #16, Coopers Speed Shop sprinter a time or two.

Doc Wentz bought the Bobby Abel car part way through the 1967 season. Wentz began the year owning the No. 3 driven by Jere Burns. Jack Deniston was in the G.H. Byrd machine. When Wentz bought the No. 2 Deniston became the new driver. The car then became the No. 20.

However, I have a later photo of the car and it is now the No. 30 and the driver's name is Bill. Does anyone know who that is. The car apparently has a Plymouth engine as the size is listed as 426 CI. The 426 was popular with the guys that ran Plymouths.

Yes Bobby Abel drove the sharp-looking Cooper's No. 16. I have a photo of him with the car at Williams Grove Speedway.

My favorite photo is Bobby Abel kissing Linda Vaughn in Lincoln's victory lane. Hilly Rife is standing beside them and has this ear to ear grin on his face.

Sorry I'm not from your area but I applaude anyone's efforts in retaining the history of the sport. Love to see the old cars brought back to life.

The Plymouth #30 would be Bill Buttons.
