Kennys first race was at the Grove. They made him take the alum. piece off the cage. He put it back on for Susky-this was the Taylor Weld car(his dad). I shot this at Susky

Kenny may have run at the Grove first, but he also started racing some in Hilly Rife's 3 track series of Dorsey Speedway (Friday), Lincoln & Susky.
He won the first time out at Dorsey on July 29, 1966 over Bobby Abel and Bobby Tester. In 1967 he won 6 features at Dorsey and had 5 second place finishes.

Thank your wife for me this is great stuff..I remember looking Kenny's car over the first night he towed into Lincoln and I thought what weird front tires it looked like he had a set of radials on when everyone was running ribs, but then wasn't he always a few years ahead. Hope you don't mind if I swipe some of these for my Facebook page.

The first night Weld was at the Grove in this car....I am quite sure he finished second to Tilley (1966). Tilley passed him going under the bridge on the last lap. I remember Bud Grim saying that Welds car was 400 pounds lighter than the 88....
