Re: 7th July,1946 Williams Grove
Johnny Shackleford from Dayton, OH won the main in the Ted Nyquist/Riverside Tires #6 sprinter. Top 5 was Shackleford, Lee Wallard, Elbert Booker, Danny Goss, and Emil Andres. The main was flagged after 26 of the scheduled 30 laps due to a wreck between Billy DeVore & Joe Verebly. Shackleford was also fast qualifier @ 27.47 seconds.
Most of the top dogs in the east were racing at Lakewood Fairgrounds (GA) that day.

not exactly what you asked for but it might help fill in some drivers names IF i can find the dang thing. i have heat lineups from the 7/20/46 big car race from SG. will post when i dig it up.
My OPINIONS are just that and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of anyone or any track I am associated with!

Re: 7th July,1946 Williams Grove
The date was July 20, 1946 and was the first ever race at Selinsgrove Speedway. It appears that there were 9 cars in attendance. 8 took time trials although only 6 show times. there were 3 three mile elimination races (originally scheduled for 5 miles). the consolation was cancelled and only 6 started the 20 lap (cut from 30) feature.
these are copies of old and weathered documents. also below are pictures from that day of the winner Bill Holland and the 2nd place finisher Red Byron who was NASCAR's first ever Strictly Stock (predecessor to Sprint Cup) champion in 1949. also 3 other photos from that day
drivers in attendance were
#29 Bill Holland
#19 Walt Ader
#63 Bob Cooney
#99 Bob Caronister
#7 Red Byron
#3 Earl Johns
#45 Dutch Culp
#53 Al Fleming
#3L Otis Stine

Thank you very much!It helped me a lot!
I do not know how good this information, but if there had been more than one event(AAA big car) in 22th July.Is it true?
A total of nine events were until 1949.Are these such a good summary do you have?

Re: 7th July,1946 Williams Grove
all the sanctioned events from the past at Selinsgrove can be found here http://selinsgrovespeedway.com/winlistsanctioned.html most have dates of the event listed. as far as i and another speedway historian can tell this is all of the events. we've done very exhaustive research.sramoa wrote:Thank you very much!It helped me a lot!

i do not have any records for williams grove.
if you're strictly looking for AAA events WG probably had them near the same dates as selinsgrove(just a guess) Selinsgrove's dates were
7/20/1946 won by Bill Holland
7/26/1947 won by Joie Chitwood
7/25/1948 won by Tommy Hinnershitz
the only other groups to run there in the 40's were Penn-Jersey 6 events from 1946-1949 and the Central States Racing Association 1 event in 1949. those winners can also be found at the link above.

Gordon White has many AAA records. He usually brings his Offy Midget to Latimore Valley for the live events. Not sure if those records may be in the library.

Unfortunately, the White AAA database is missing year 1946 , but there is a list for him. That's why I'm looking for this one event.(And thanks to Selinsgrove event!!!)

Re: 7th July,1946 Williams Grove
I just checked my files and I have a program for this date with the entries and their qualifying times. It looks like 30 cars took time and 3 or 4 others were there. I will type the info and scan it. It is currently written in cursive and hard to read.
