Not that it matters, but how was Lance across the checkers as the incident occured on the back stretch on the last lap  I didnt think he was half a track ahead of the action. Any help please :dontknow:

I was wondering the same thing. But congrats to LD on the win, and tough break to the 21 and 48

The crowd wasn't happy with them waving the Red Flag and the Checkered Flag like they did.

They should have run one more lap to complete the race!

CONGRATS to Lance! :thumbright:

I'm not an on-track official and am no expert on scoring but there was some radio discussion of the finish and it was handled properly in accordance with track rules. It has to do with how many cars have passed the checkered flag when the yellow or red flag comes out - if enough have passed (and I don't know what that number is), those cars have finished the race so it is officially over and the rest are scored where they finished their last completed lap. Also, the car(s) that bring out the yellow or red are scored at the end of the field, so the 48 and 21 were no longer fourth and fifth.

It can be confusing but it was handled correctly.

Not second guessing Ed ;) I know The Race Official Holds All Cards ;) No one took The Checker ;) The 21 Did
not create a Yellow or a Red ;) Just sayin ;)

It's not the first time this year I've seen them score a lap when the leader was nowhere near the flag but it's the first it has happened on the last lap. Anyway, congrats to LD! The "child of the wild child" looked pretty good tonight also.

If you ask me their should be absolutley no such thing of a red and checkered being waved at same time. Red flag means stop so when it was waved Lance was still coming out of 4 they should've ran 1 more lap. Anyway congrats LD :thumbright:

Yes, I know I will be very much interested to watch paposse's highlights video as they always show the winner taking the checkered flag each week, to see if Lance was that far or not. Not in any way saying the outcome would have been any different, but it certainly could have, not just for the leaders but throughout the field.

wasn't there so don't know details but it has happened at SG and there the car count across the line is 1. while lance probably was not across the line, according to these posts, i'm sure each flagman has a "spot" where he begins to wave the checkered flag when the leader gets to it. just like there's a spot where they go green for restarts (crossover) or where they turn the yellow lights out to signal going green and no cars may enter the track (rear pit gate)' at SG i believe randy unfurls the checkers at the crossover gate. once the checkered is "unfurled" you can't pull it back. as long as the leader at that time still crosses the line he's the winner and the rest of the field is frozen on the last scored lap less cars involved in the incident. the "unfurling spot" is or should be close enough to the finish line that if a guy's waving the checkers and then needs to wave the yellow the leader has probably taken the checkers before the yellow can be waved.

I sit on the frontstretch and Dewease was nowhere near the flag stand when the red/checkered came out.

Scott is 100% correct! Lance was heading down the frontstretch toward the finish line and the checkered flag was out being displayed ( too late at this point to change actions ), once the crash happened and the corner worker radioed red, the situation quickly went from checkered to red and yes Lance was across the line by then, completing the race! All remaining cars then get scored in the position they were in when they crossed the line the lap before ( except those in the wreck ).
