Re: and i thought the pocket rocket was ugly
the cab part of the body is definetely facing the way he is. the rock screen in front and the curved rear of the cab look correct and the door hinges are towards the front. plus the tires are definetly wider in the rear as it sits. looks like the motor leans towards the rear which would make it hard for the drive shaft to connect to what i think is the front of the car. can't tell for sure from the suspension or which end would allow for steering. if it's a joke someone sure put a lot of work into it. anyone know for sure what this is?JTR13 wrote:Looks like someone mounted the seat backwards just to mess with him, LOL...

Re: and i thought the pocket rocket was ugly
i agree. maybe i didn't splain my thoughts clearly. i definetely think it was designed the way it sits based on the rock screen, the layout of the "cab", and the tires. maybe not as an actual race car but maybe as a novelty? could this have been one of the first rear engine racers ever?

Re: and i thought the pocket rocket was ugly
Luke McCoy owned car driven by Roger Sowers. I saw this car race the few times it raced and it wasn't pretty to the eyes or on the track performance. Rear engine craze.... This was right around the time the rear engine cars started to sweep Indy, so hey why not on a dirt track....lol
They didn't run this car much but it was and still is very interesting. This was before Kenny Weld got here but he would have loved these guys...lol
1080 was pretty close to the McCoy team so I am sure when he sees this he will fill in any holes I missed. I only saw the car race Lincoln for a short time then it went away.

Re: and i thought the pocket rocket was ugly
I never saw the car race...but remember the story was it was a failure. Roger had no clue where the rear end was in the turns as you could imagine. Try throwing this thing into a corner...LOL. The later versions of rear powered cars in the mid 70's the driver sat more to the middle. This thing is almost a snub nose....
I only remember pictures on the wall of the McCoy Shop of this car....that would have been 1963 probably, so this should have been a 1962 experiment. Lute had the loot and he spent it trying to beat Mackison. All his cars were pretty good stuff from day one....just not enough of something to win big time.
I still can't believe I never saw this car....of course I was at Lincoln only 1 time in the 60's...probably 1964. I remember the 83 cars more at Selinsgrove in 1963 and Port some in 1962. the McCoy team was sold after 1963....what a loss back in the day. In about 12 months...1963, Mackison, Hersh, Sowers, and the McCoy Team were all gone....mainstays of the bug era.

Here is a picture of a Rear Engine Sprint Car - Port Royal 08/26/1972 which was a 'newer' version of the rear/mid engine sprint car.

Re: and i thought the pocket rocket was ugly
My hole "seat backwards" comment was only a joke... I noticed the rock screen and tires too, I thought it was funny that if you look at the car without actually focusing your eyes, or in my case just take my glasses off lol, it looks like he is sitting in the car backwards...
