Was this possibly the '83 National Open, Lynn's last win?

I remember when Sanders was the mechanic for Kauffman/Hamilton early 1984 the year after Paxton retired. They were ranked #1 in the country over Kinser, Swindell, Wolfgang, etc. Had 22 wins by mid-June when Tommy left to go back to Gambler. I was so p*****d!! Keith won 32 races that year ... 22 of those very quickly and that was the year he won 13 at the Grove and beat the Outlaws at Orange County, NY. Sanders leaving and then Wolfgang joining Weikert shortly after Sanders left made things much tougher.

Always wondered how much better the Wolfgang/Weikert/Brown Jr. & Sr. vs. Kauffman/Hamilton rivalry would have been if Sanders was still helping Keith & Al when Doug came to PA. 1985 saw Doug win 56 & Keith 34. Everybody else hardly any.

And did anyone notice 'the mayor' in the red hat, left side of the picture?

I'd say pretty much the same as it is with maybe KK winning a few more races then he did. Wolfie and the Browns did things pretty much their own way so Sanders wasn't a huge input. Sr was soo good with the motor combo and Jr was the same with the chassis and tire combo plus he had first hand knoledge on how the notor was built and tuned so that gave him an edge with the chassis set ups. Sure was great racing back then esp with Weikert and Hamilton adding their own spin on things in victory lane from week to week. Prob never see that kind of racing again. Two of the best owners ever and two of the best wheel men to ever pilot a sprinter. Sounds like a movie could be made about it somehow.

It was a classic time to be at the Pa tracks thats for sure. :thumbleft: :yessss:
