P.S.U.

Post by longtimefan » Sun Nov 25, 2012 11:42 am

8-4 I wonder what the odds makers had the odds of that pegged at before the season. 9-4 really because they beat Nebraska they just didn't beat the officials that day. I wonder what Silas Redd thinks of his national championship that he went after. Had he stayed at PSU he would likely have gotten more attention and been on a ten win or better team had they had few of their better players. The guys who stayed obviously had more of a team and less of a me attitude so I don't know if they would have made much difference since their replacements did a pretty job of stepping up their game. I know they are short some scolarships but this season has to help their recruiting for next year.

Penn state will go into an abyss next year.

You guys have a long way to go to be a respectable program!

Keeping Bill O'Brien is the key. He's done a fantastic job. If he stays a lot of top prospects will come to Penn state, probation or not, and they will be competing for championships in 3-4 years. If he bolts, then they are in for a long rebuild process. They better open the checkbook because he's gonna be sought after by NFL teams and other colleges.

And I believe the naysayers were predicting two wins and a stadium less than half full this year.

I predict at least 8 more wins next year, too. OB did a fantastic job and will continue to do so.

The loss of scholarships is going to hurt them in the coming years. Other than the few players who left, they retained most of their depth this season and they did stay healthy for the most part. With a loss of scholarship players a few injuries become a lot more of a concern.

They were a big surprise and I think its great for the kids that stayed. The staff did an exceptional job.

Yep that's true but they still have a lot of talented underclassmen on the roster, most of whom played well this season and will hopefully be back next year. They are looking very strong at WR and TE. Staying healthy is the key and finding a QB is also a top priority. Right now Bench is the only returning QB they have. Hackenburg is still committed so far and they also offered a scholarship to a junior college kid who threw for absurd numbers this year. I think this seasons success along with O'Briens growing popularity is gonna enable PSU to keep most if not all of the key players currently on the team and enable them to land some decent recruits. I think 8 wins is a reasonable goal for next season.

I know it's a long shot but I'm still holding out hope that once Spanier, Curley and Schulz have their day in court and are found not guilty, the NCAA will do the proper thing and reduce the penalties.

The reduced scholarship numbers will hurt but most things can be worked also. I read where apparently they had a few spots unfilled after defections in 2012. This has allowed them to enroll a few top prospects in school in Jan. for the spring semester and count them as 2012 recruits. I am sure that they will work the walk on program hard. The walk on program will work best for good students where they can guide them toward other scholarships. There are many there for qualified applicants.

This is the exact reason why Hackenburg and Breneman are traveling to visit verbally commited recruits and explaining to all of them that its very important to walk on....they are also explaining to them that football is second to their education.

I don't see O'Brien going anywhere. He's turned down other head coaching jobs already this year.

The NCAA has even already gone back on their decision and said they regret punishing the kids and coaches.
Beerhill, bottoms up!!!!
