I think it may have been the last year for Firestone, but can't swear to it. Jeff had a good run at Knoxville this year (1984) he finished 5th.

We ran Firestones until '87 in URC, don't know about the Outlaws.

My bad. I didn't mean all of sprint car racing. Jeff was one of the few using them with the outlaws. They seemed to work well for him. Not a big fan of tire rules myself.

Ah the memories:
If I remember correctly, Jeff's ride was also short-lived. I believe it was the Merle Thomason #80. Thomason passed away in mid-season - just before the July Grove Outlaws stop (maybe not long after this shot? Eldora stop on the way to the Grove????). And, I think it was gone after a few more shows - the eastern swing maybe.
What I do distinctly remember is putting a rather large scratch on the tailgate of the typically immaculate Swindell Old Milwaukee trailer while helping a crew member unload a spare chassis from the roof of the trailer.
Those were the days - crew cab duellies, Chapparral trailers with the spares on the roof, and, with the exception of Sammy, high shine gone from the cars by July.
Thanks for letting me reminisce.
