Snowmobiles?

Post by Warthog » Thu Dec 06, 2012 10:24 pm

Has any local track ever done a snowmobile race in winter (snow level permitting)?
Q: How is Central PA different from the Old West?
A: In Central PA, the Outlaws try to catch The Posse!

Good "sled" count at Sharon.Surprising fan count too.I think the covered stands help.

Jack Gunn had then at both WG & SG during the racing season as "gimic" events with sprint and lm drivers of the time running them. iirc at SG 5 started and only 1 finished the 1st lap. somewhere i have a promotional photo from the wg event.
My OPINIONS are just that and do not necessarily reflect the opinions of anyone or any track I am associated with!

Quite sure Jennerstown use to back in the 70's.
Nothing beats the old points based handicapping system.
Draw and TT shows suck.

Was talking to someone about that a few years back. I believe they said it was in the 60s and early 70s at Grandview Speedway.

Just saw this on south jersey dirt's message board

Hartford, OH Jan 6, 2013 With 2013 now upon us, Sharon Speedway is ready to kick off the new seasons this Saturday, January 12 with the "Circle Track Showdown" Snowmobile Races, which will be presented by JohnnyK's Powersports of Niles, Ohio. The no snow make-up date is Saturday, January 19.

The inaugural event held in 2011 saw a packed grandstands brave bitter cold temperatures with the wind chill well below zero and watched over 100 competitors put on a quite a show. Last year, it took three tries before a last minute snowstorm allowed the event to take place on January 21 that featured nine different winners in 11 classes.

Once again, admission is just $5 for an all-access facility pass, which includes both grandstands and pits! Gates will open at 9 with racing at 11 a.m.

The following classes will be in action in both independent front suspension and leaf: 400cc and under, 401-500 cc, 501-600cc, 601-700cc, 701-800cc, 801cc+ & mods, along with the vintage sleds.

Helmets are required, while suits, gloves, chest protectors & tethers are highly recommended. Each class will run heats and a feature. Drivers will be permitted a few warm-up laps. There will be no cash prizes as winners will receive trophies only. Hay bales have been setup around the 3/8-mile track.

Sled and/or rider must be visibly numbered! Registration is now $30 per class. Registration forms are available at www.sharonspeedway.com/drivers/registration.

JohnnyK's Powersports is located at 420 Youngstown-Warren Road in Niles, Ohio. JohnnyK's specializes in ATV's, snowmobiles, utility vehicles, watecraft, scooters, cargo trailers, and sport utility trailers in brands like Arctic Cat, Can-Am, Sea-Doo, Ski-Doo, E-Ton, Triton, and Kawaski. For more information, check out their website at www.johnnykspowersports.com or call 330-544-9696.

The "Circle Track Showdown II" Snowmobile races are scheduled for Saturday, January 26. Sharon will host the annual awards banquet and dinner on Saturday, February 2. The first auto racing event of 2013 will hit the track on Saturday, March 23 with open practice followed by the "Springduro 150" Enduro. Ticket order forms and registration forms for these events are on our website at www.sharonspeedway.com.
