Paxton and Ritchey are 1963....the others are from the Stars and Cars Book for 1964. The F-9 is very late in 1964 and that picture is from the Open Comp Race at the Grove. The F-9 was the 09 earler in 1964 with Brian Osgood driving it. The F-9 is the McClure 15 from 1963. Bill Miller drove the F-9 in 1965. That car took a violent flip down the front stretch at the Grove in 1965...I think Miller was driving it. He was injured in it for sure in the 2nd turn when the scatter shield didn't do its job when the flywheel(?) broke...

Paxton's 9 was silver in 1964. The Ritchey car shown was the first car to flip into the new pit at the Grove in 1963. Pete Lenker drove a blue 30 in 1963 and he was slightly injured when he clobbered the inside rail and got part way into the pit at the Grove.

Crawford was in his own 96 in 1963 and I can't remember if he started 1964 in the 96 or not....making the Brymesser picture probably 1963. The Crawford 96 became the Ed Spencer 30 in 1965!

The 10 of Lingle is one of the old Osgood 09's I believe...1963 09.

These cars back then had some long careers.... :cheers2:

1080 i don,t think the 10 car was a osgood car couple drivers drove this car. osgood,pete swarmer,i,m not sure who esle. this car was own by j.p. russell out of millerstown pa. he was in the gas buss. and sold atlantic gas. russell could have sold it to b. osgood

The number 10 on the picture is the Jim Russell car. He purchased it from Brian Osgood. It was the yellow #9 that Osgood ran at Port Royal. Joe Lingle drove the car. Jim later sold the #10 to Graham Taylor and it became the #57.
The next #10 was a CAE car and I think Frankie Thompson drove it the first night. Then Brian Osgood drove it. After Brian, Pete Swarmer drove it in 1966.

60's fan is correct from what I remember and have seen in pictures. I wasn't sure on Grahm Taylor so I didn't say anything about him. I think I have a pic of the car as the 57. I got it in one of those grab bag deals where you bought a bag of unknown pictures.

Those High Point Men books are the best books I have ever seen about local racing.

you are so right about high point men i have both 1 and 2. also have the (the winners circle) photos front to back. also have a photo of g. taylor in the 57. great place to get informtion about racing in the past.

The Osgood 9 that became the Russell 10, then the Graham Taylor 57 was built by Junie Bodine, uncle of Geoff, Brett, and Todd Bodine. They were the chassis to beat in southern NY supermodified racing in the early 60's. The New Yorkers referred to the cars as "June Bugs". The photo of the car when Joe Lingle ran it has the temporary "production car" roof. For one year the rules stated that all cars had to have "production car" roof's. As you can see the rule was pushed to the limit of how much of the original roof had to be used.

this 10 car got over the front stretch guard rail and into the shrubbery, along with another car, before the flagstand. both landed upright i think, anyone remember that accident?

i think the 3 crawford car is 1964, johnny was a good driver but he used to spin this car quite often.

They say Geoff spent many Saturday nights at Port Royal with the Osgoods.

John Fabian from Everett was a crew member for the Cici-Welliver Hungry Jack Grand National team in the early to mid 90's with driver Todd Bodine. We were in Rockingham for the fall race in 93 and John invited my wife and I to stand on the transporter during practice. When we climbed the ladder, Geoff was there spotting for Todd. He didn't look like he wanted to talk so I never said anything to him the whole time. It was Geoff, my wife and I on the transporter, that's all. If I knew then that he was at Port in the 60's with the Osgood's, I would have asked him about it...
