Was that the crash at the bridge? The car was sitting with its front end up on the inside bridge support.

This is from the Hersh - Roger Sowers crash at the bridge. Amazing part is Hersh went to the pits, climbed in the Trone No. 39 and won the feature. He came back for the second feature and won that in the Trone car. Hersh questioned Sowers capabilities that night if you get my drift. Steve Bubb

They said Hersh carried a grudge against Sowers basically to his grave.

Both cars got tore up......Bobby did have some questions in his mind after the crash. I believe Roger was on the outside and drove down across the track on Hersh. Bobby told me back in the late 80's that he had talked to Roger in the mid 80's when he saw him at Susky. I believe Roger has lived in California since he left Pa. in the mid 60's. This crash was in 1963.

Bobby did give me the full rendition of his crash when he was injured that same year and the one where he flipped at Susky during the first race in 1963...He was a talker!!!!!

RIP Bobby!

In all the years that I knew Bobby, I never heard him say a bad word against another driver, even Roger. But he sure did like to tell the story about that night. How thw #39 lost oil pressure right before the feature and he hopped in Pee Wee's car and wrecked it. While in the infield 1st aid room, his crewmen stuck his head in the door and said the #39 was ready. Bobby said that made him feel a whole lot better, and he went out and won both features. I sure miss the "old Dutchman".

The Victory Lane pic of Sowers appears to be at Selinsgrove based on the scalloped trim on the announce tower. If that's the case it was from August 10, 1963 when Roger got his only win at Selinsgrove.

Yes on Selinsgrove...Hersh won at the Grove on August 2nd...so August 2nd may be the crash date?

50 year ceremony at the Bridge this year??? :cheers2: August 2nd is on a Friday this year. A mention of it prior to the feature or a spot in the program??? Fat Chance....

Kudos to the other tracks for passing history along from time to time....
