07 Tanger Car

Post by Ricupero » Wed Aug 21, 2013 11:45 am

Can anyone confirm this, as a young kid i remember Smokey Snellbaker racing a black 07 sportsman, was this car owned by Tanger,

and if so, does anyone have a picture of the car?

Also, did tanger own a sportsman, 358, and 410 all at the same time, or own a combination of any of those three divisons at one point?

The last time i remember Tanger having a car it was white and I think Todd Gracey drove it.

Yes Bill and Kay owned the 07 Sportsman that Smokey Drove in the late 80's. Before Smokey Fred Putney and a few others drove for them. Later Frankie Herr and Tim Leiphert both drove it. They did have a Sportsman/358 back in early 90's and then the 410. I know Frankie drove the 358 and Smokey drove the 410 in the early days. Dave Height, Todd Gracey, Jeff Rohrbaugh, and others drove for them later. Always one of my favorite cars. The Tanger's Garage was just down the road from my Grandmother's house on Forge rd. in Carlisle. With all the retro paint jobs for special races I would love to so someone run a Tanger paint job.

I spent every Saturday night cheering for the Silver Fox, whether he was in the Tanger, Highlands, Long, Callahan, or John Surma super sportsman. I really miss those days at Silver Spring. Smoke was one of the greatest wheel men I ever saw race. He was competitive into his late 60's and I miss him everyday.

I believe Tanger was the only owner to win at the Grove in 358, 410, and super sportsman.
