Just spied this on SSP website today......
Dear Sportsman Modified Drivers,
I have received many emails and a few phone calls concerning the Sportsman Modifieds at SSP for the 2014 season. It has been brought to my attention that Big Diamond Speedway has dramatically reduced the number of races for the upcoming season. It is unfortunate that this has happened as we were pleased with the support and races produced by the Sportsman Modifieds over the last two years at SSP.
I know that many of you would like to race on a weekly or bi-weekly basis at SSP in 2014. If possible, we would love to have this happen as well. However, we have five divisions (Late Models, Street Stocks, Xtreme Stocks, Road Warriors and Mini Vans). In order for me to make room for the Sportsman Modifieds on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, I would have to remove races from one of our weekly divisions.
I believe that you would agree that this is not a good thing to do as it has happened to you. These divisions have supported me faithfully since 2007. It would not be fair to just drop them and bring in another division without a good reason. Right now, I don’t have any reason to do that.
We do have races scheduled for 2014 on Thursday, July 3 and Saturday, October 25. I am looking into scheduling one or two more races, but I need to wait and see the other speedway schedules so that we can have maximum participation and no conflicts with the other speedways.
I know that this is not the news that many of you wanted to hear, but please look at it from our side as well. If the Sportsman Modifieds should become a regular division at SSP in the future, I’m sure you would want the same confidence and assurance that your division would not be dropped immediately for any reason.
Thank you and we look forward to seeing you at SSP this season.
Have a happy holiday season.
