One of the big stories at Volusia this week has been the large amount of teams suffering from motor issues. Danny Dietrich said on Twitter that the GKR team wasn't going to run Volusia next year. I'm just curious if anyone knows what the problem is because there has definitely been a lot of teams having problems.

This might help a bit because I learned the hard way. Most teams use a weather station to check the altitude, air density, temperature etc. so they can adjust their engines timing and fuel mixture. Most of the time you can rely on that but for some reason in Florida you can check your weather station and make your adjustments and 15 minutes later you are out of the ballpark. Why?, I don't know but it can change so fast down there it's unreal. Most of the guys go a little extra rich on fuel and conservative on timing to be safe. Can't say this is the problems guys had down there but if you blew it up that's one thing, but if you burned it down you were obviously to lean.

It has a lot to do with the sea level and how the air constantly changes at a lower sea level. I heard that on the MRN interveiw with the Madman on Friday afternoon.

Correct. It comes from being closer to sea level and the conditions changing because of the tide. Some people don't adjust their fuel setting accordingly and have problems. It occurs everywhere down there (and around here too) but is more noticeable at Volusia because of the wide open speed...SLINKMASTERC wrote:It has a lot to do with the sea level and how the air constantly changes at a lower sea level.
