Brain do you recall if Paul was ever on the cover of Open Wheel Magazine? I seem to remember seeing this, but may just be the old grey mush playing tricks on me. :laughing7:

Yes one of the cars was on the cover of Open Wheel....I think it's this one. I'll have to check with Dad as I'm sure he has the Open Wheel with that cover.

He has the Open Wheel with Paul driving the Stanton car at Syracuse. From what I recall, it appears to be going down the backstretch.

I'll have to get scans of the shots to post and Dad will get more info from Paul.

Late Summer 1979 was when I started attended races at Williams Grove these photos and stories are a nice step back in time!

I found a copy of the cover by searching through the web...it's the same car.

A rock or something hit the oil filter and the oil leaked on to the header. That's what the picture shows. I remember Paul got the car back to the pit and bailed out while the car slowly rolled by. Dad grabbed the rear bumper and managed to stop the car.

I remember also hand-sanding that hood before it was painted. :doh:
