ABOUT WILLIAMS GROVE
SPEEDWAY
Located in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania, the half-mile
Williams Grove Speedway has been part of the rich history of motorsports
throughout the nation and the world since the gates were first opened in
1939. Tommy Hinnershitz won the first-ever event contested before weekly sprint
car racing began in 1967. Prior to that time stock car racing was the norm
before it evolved into coupes and the famed 30 x 90 bugs.
The Cumberland County oval has been the playing field for not only some
of the most recognized sanctioning bodies in auto racing but also for the
finest drivers to ever strap themselves into an open-cockpit car. National
champions like Ted Horn, A.J. Foyt and Mario Andretti have raced at the Grove,
which has laid the framework for what has come to be known as the best in the
sprint car business competing on a regular basis.
Today, Williams Grove hosts weekly programs of the best sprint car racing
anywhere from late February to October, including appearances by the World
of Outlaws. Featuring a family atmosphere and affordable prices, be sure to
visit The Grove in person after you have visited us on the web.
The
speedway is a one-half mile semi-banked clay oval. The surface is prepared for every event by grading and
watering in a attempt to maintain a smooth and moist surface.
Williams Grove Speedway presents Sprint Car racing as the major
attraction.
Special programs include the traveling World of Outlaws
sprint cars, 358 Limited Sprints, URC Sprints, Super Sportsman and Late
Models. The normal race night is Friday with a starting time of 8pm.
The facility has seating for over 10,000 people including a grandstand
and an infield for spectators that is separate from the pit area.
There are many food stands throughout the spectator areas and they
offer a wide variety of hot and cold food items and drinks.
