358s RETURN APRIL 18 -- TOMMY CLASSIC APRIL 25

MECHANICSBURG, PA -- When the limited (358 c.i.) sprints return to
Williams Grove speedway on Friday night, April 18, along with the sprint
cars, Dave Calaman will have another opportunity to get his name into
the Grove's record book in a very unique category.
Calaman, 48, of Carlisle, owns five victories in super sportsman
competition and one sprint car triumph at Williams Grove, but has never
won in a limited (358 c.i.) sprint at this historic Mechanicsburg half-mile.
On March 21 Calaman was poised to become the first driver to win
in all three open wheel divisions that compete regularly at Williams
Grove Speedway.
He led the 358 feature until the fourth corner with just over a lap
remaining when Pat Cannon used a bold move to take the lead, then went
on to win the race.
A week later Cannon came back to score his first victory in the
Grove's premier sprint car class and became the first driver to win in
sportsman , limited sprints and sprint cars.
The chance to make history for Calaman was denied by Cannon, but
payback would be sweet for the open wheel veteran this week, who could
now become the second driver to win in all three divisions.
That would still be quite an accomplishment since the Grove has
been hosting limited sprints since 1989, super sportsman since 1981 and
sprint car racing since 1939.
Both defending champion Cannon and Calaman will have plenty of
competition this week.  A strong field of 48 limited sprints jammed the
pit area for the division's only 2008 appearance on March 21.
The 410 c.i. sprint car teams will headline Friday night's program
beginning at 7:30, but will have the pit area to themselves on April 25
for the running of the Tommy Classic.
This annual event will honor the memory of the late Tommy
Hinnershitz, one of the all-time greats of sprint car racing.
