Meyers Outduels Schuchart For Grove Open Prelim

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Mechanicsburg –
Jason Meyers won his second World of Outlaws feature in a row Friday night
at Williams Grove Speedway, scoring the National Open Preliminary for sprint
cars worth $8,000.
Meyers was also the winner the last time the WoO appeared at the track back
in July for the Summer Nationals.
Meyers, of Clovis,
Calif., earned the pole for the feature by winning the dash and was flanked
by teenage Hanover pilot Logan Schuchart.
In just his third ever
appearance in a 410 sprint car and his first at the Grove, Schuchart flew
the PA Posse colors high during the night and throughout the 25-lap feature
event.
The initial start of the main was yellow flagged when Justin Henderson and
Chad Layton tangled on the backstretch with Layton’s car drifting into the
infield via the backstretch pit entrance after he lost the steering and
brakes on his mount.
Meyers set the pace
when action resumed and in the end would be scored the leader of every lap
of the feature but that’s not to say he didn’t get passed.
In fact, Schuchart
passed him twice only to see Meyers retake control.
Schuchart’s first and
best stab at getting control came on lap nine when he flew deep into the
first corner and slid up in front of Meyers in the middle of the second turn
only to see Meyers drop off of the cushion and drive back by for control on
the backstretch.
But Schuchart wasn’t
done and after trailing for two more laps, he took a shot again, this time
low in the third and fourth turns but couldn’t make the move stick.
After that, although
he kept the leader in his sights, Meyers maintained control in traffic and
with six to go, Schuchart’s good run came to an end after a slap of the
outside turn one wall resulted in a flat right rear tire.
Third starter Greg
Hodnett was up to second for the restart but failed to challenge over the
final six laps.
“Winning an outlaw
race is hard, winning at Williams Grove is really, really hard,” Meyers said
from victory lane before turning his remarks to challenger Schuchart.
“How ‘bout him,” Meyers said.
“I’ve been hearing about him.
Those young kids, they got the talent and
they’re not afraid of anything.”
Defending Open
Preliminary winner Hodnett ended up second and talked about the restart with
six to go and his inability to challenge Meyers.
“I stumbled really bad.
It just didn’t take off and I don’t know why,”
he said.
Fourth starter Fred
Rahmer finished third followed by Joey Saldana and Jason Sides.
Sixth through 10th went to Kerry Madsen, Sammy Swindell, Brian
Montieth, Steve Kinser and fast timer Daryn Pittman.
Pittman’s fast time
over the 53-car field was 16.740 seconds.
Heats went to Schuchart, Hodnett, Meyers, Madsen and Sides.
Meyers won the dash.
Brad Sweet scored the C Main with the B Main going to Justin Henderson.
The $50,000 to win, 40-lap National Open is Saturday
night.
The race is carrying a raindate of Sunday evening.
